So What Really Happened at the Maryland McDonald’s That Led to Brutal Attack Video?

It was the out-of-context video heard ’round the nation on Friday. Was the brutal assault of a 22-year-old white female at the hands of two black attackers in a Maryland McDonald’s a hate crime? Was the seizure at the end of the video real? Couldn’t the employees have stopped it?

After a long weekend in which so many voyeurs went searching for answers, the identity of one of the attackers as well as the 22-year-old victim of the attack have been revealed.

Teonna Monae Brown, 18, was arrested and is being charged with assault for attacking 22-year-old Chrissy Lee Polis, a transgendered McDonald’s employee who’s brutal beating was captured by a co-worker. Brown was aided in the assault by a 14-year-old friend whose identity hasn’t been released because of her status as a minor. Both are now in police custody.

The fight started as Polis was coming out of the bathroom at work.

“I went to go use the bathroom. Come back out, the girl spit in my face, said, ‘Are you trying to talk to my man?’ I said, ‘No, I didn’t even know that was your man at all.’ The other girl came up, spit in my face, then they started ripping my hair, throwing me on the floor,” Polis said according to CBS Baltimore.

You can see the results of the assault here. The video is very graphic so be prepared:

The brutal attack was only broken up when a female customer intervened. Other employees can be heard laughing while the incident occurs. When authorities arrived on the seen they found Polis having an epileptic seizure.

“They just seemed like they wanted to pick a fight that night, they really did. And come to find out that girl was only 14 years old. I was shocked,” Polis said. “They kicked me in my face; they really hurt me really bad and I’m just afraid to go outside now because of stuff like this.”

The employee who stood by passively and video taped the assault has reportedly been let go according to the company. It wasn’t long before Brown was arrested.

According to the Smoking Gun: A District Court filing reveals that Brown’s own sister approached cops to report that her sibling “had just told her that she assaulted a woman at the McDonald’s located at 6315 Kenwood Avenue.” Deshawn Brown added that her sister told her that the juvenile suspect “was with her and assaulted the woman too.”

It’s not often that you hear about cases that are barbaric enough that family members turn you in. Kudos to the sister for doing the right thing.

This isn’t even the first time Brown has been arrested for violence associated with this McDonald’s. Last year she was reportedly arrested for punching a mother of two in the face before trying to beat her with an umbrella and trying to rip out her hair.

It’s still unclear if the assault was a direct hate crime or just a vicious attack. It still hasn’t been decided whether or not hate crime charges will be brought against the pair that brutally beat Polis. The 14-year-old will reportedly be charged as a juvenile.

This sort of pattern of behavior clearly suggests something deeply wrong with Brown to begin with. Normal people don’t generally have repeat cases of physical assault in a McDonalds. Transgender advocacy groups are planning a rally outside the McDonalds to protest the barbaric attack Monday night.
